MARKETHILL  LIVESTOCK  SHEEP  SALE  REPORT  25-02-21

An entry of 1050 sheep in Markethill on Wednesday 24^th February sold in a noticeably firmer trade for fat lambs and fat hoggets with cull ewes and breeding stock selling in a steady trade.

Heavy fat hoggets sold to a top of £141.50 each for 16 hoggets 25.5k 555p for a Poyntzpass farmer. Several pens sold from £135 to £140 each with all top quality pens from 520p to 571p per kilo paid for 24k @ £137 each from a Moira farmer. A Jerrettspass farmer received 565p per kilo for 22 hoggets 24.6k @ £139 each. In all, the 350 heavy hoggets averaged 26.3k @ £134 each 509p per kilo.

Good quality middleweight hoggets sold steadily form 540p to 583p per kilo for 21.6k @ £126 each from a Moira farmer and for 23.5k @ £137 each from a Poyntzpass producer. Horned hoggets sold to a top of 551p per kilo for 22.5k @ £124 each followed by 549p per kilo for 22.6k @ £124 each.

Good quality pens of stores sold from 520p to 598p per kilo for 18.4k @ £110 each from a Rostrevor farmer.

Good quality cull ewes sold from £85 to £120 each.

A full yard of ewes and lambs sold in a very firm trade to a top price of £325 for 1 ewe + 3 lambs at foot. Doubles sold to £295 each with several more pens from £230 to £290 each. Singles sold to £280 with others at £260, £240 & £230 each.
